It may be a brash statement to make, but across the NonStop community there is an appreciation of just how competitive NonStop pricing has become. In terms of Total Cost of Ownership, or TCO, it’s hard not to be impressed by the value delivered today and yet, when it comes to the cost of software, it has been slow going bringing into line the license fees – particularly where the initial costs are concerned – so much so, that at some sights, it is placing the longer-term presence of NonStop within an enterprise in jeopardy.
Save time; save money; save NonStop! This expression has captured the attention of NTI. Where migrations are concerned – and yes, among the NonStop customer base, opportunities for NonStop vendors to improve their product footprint often comes with the successful migration from a legacy product to something more modern – these migrations represent the core business of the NonStop vendor. And it is here where vendors like NTI can really make a difference.
However, what might not be in the best interest of the NonStop customer is the recent practice of providing software bundles. Through additions of NonStop vendor products to the regular NonStop price book to become commissionable items for the NonStop sales team, it is not just a case of maintaining an interest in keeping prices high but rather, introduces bundles that may not always be in the best interest of the NonStop customer.
Given that you will continue to read of references being made to a mantra, Save Time; Save Money; Save NonStop, then perhaps this is the very drawcard that will have you attending NTI sessions to hear more. “Any migration that can be completed well within the expected time of alternate offerings is time worth saving,” said Tim Dunne, NTI’s Global Director Worldwide Sales. “And saving time means saving money. Together these are major contributors to reducing Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and any move to improve the TCO of NonStop will ultimately save NonStop.”
If NonStop customers are arguing for a bundling deal that comes with a single invoice have caught the attention of the NonStop sales team, “surely it is their similar cry for help in bringing down costs that is hard to ignore,” said Tim Dunne. “As the price of hardware continues to decline through standardization and becomes cost competitive, the price of software is witnessing an opposite and indeed accelerating trend that continues to this day; and this needs to be addressed.”
Two years ago, NTI’s contribution to lower TCO was to make data freshly created on the NonStop less expensive and readily available to all downstream business units by eliminating costly target system license and support fees, thus enabling Enterprise Data Distribution without additional cost to the business. DRNet®/Unified has become the best value priced Business Continuity offering by not only lowering traditional TCO but, when migrations are factored in, frees up real funds that can readily be applied to adding new applications to NonStop.
But there is much more to this story than a single initiative involving data distribution, but to hear the story in more detail make sure you attend sessions planned for Tuesday (Strategic) and Wednesday (Technical and Tactical). Details follow here:
