Gravic recently published the cover story: My NonStop Journey with HPE Shadowbase in the March/April issue of The Connection. Paden Holenstein, Product Manager, describes his journey into the HPE NonStop world and how his understanding of enterprise IT was transformed over the past decade.
Paden initially believed that all IT systems functioned smoothly but quickly learned that there can be a great disparity in performance and resilience between systems and architectures and the importance of audited database management systems (DBMS).
While BASE24TM is a very popular HPE NonStop app, it uses legacy-style database interaction: non-audited Enscribe files. Best practices have now progressed to provide database consistency and data integrity, which is why many organizations are upgrading to audited Enscribe and SQL databases such as BASE24-eps with HPE Shadowbase to enhance reliability.
Paden mentions learning how critical it is for companies to utilize solutions like HPE Shadowbase and TMF auditing to ensure long-term security and success. Two successful customer stories are included in the article:
- A major UK bank migrated its BASE24 application to an active/active architecture using HPE Shadowbase, eliminating planned downtime and producing continuous availability.
- A large island bank upgraded to an audited HPE Shadowbase Sizzling-Hot-Takeover environment, allowing it to reduce its recovery time from hours to seconds.
Beyond performance gains, Digital Resilience is now essential due to increasing regulations, such as the Digital Operation Resilience Act (DORA), to defend against cyber threats. Customers are evolving beyond traditional Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery practices; they must also provide application availability that survives malware, ransomware, and cyberattacks.
Gravic would like to hear from you – what about your journey? Do you know about the benefits of switching to an audited database? What challenges are you facing regarding your daily IT operations? And more importantly, how can we help? Please contact us for more information.
Gravic Presented on HPE Shadowbase Digital Resilience at ChileTUG, SunTUG, MexTUG, and N2TUG
Gravic presented HPE Shadowbase Digital Resilience and Ransomware Data Recovery at the N2TUG Chapter Meeting held near Dallas on April 24. We discussed ransomware attacks and new government initiatives, such as DORA. They are driving the increasing need for new data protection and recovery architectures, including air-gapped systems, bare-metal recovery, immutable storage, and data vaults to enable rapid data recovery with transactional consistency to a trusted state. We also reviewed key innovations and investments in HPE Shadowbase, including Zero Data Loss and Heterogeneous Compare, as well as recent customer implementations and a product update.
Other N2TUG highlights included:
- Casey Taylor (pictured), VP and GM of HPE NonStop (Pictured), reaffirmed HPE’s commitment to NonStop customers and Kernel Virtual Machine (KVM).
- Karen Ramirez, Director of NonStop North America Sales, stressed the benefits of HPE NonStop and the power of people in the community.
- Neil Davis, Global Sales Director of NonStop, reviewed the New to NonStop (N2NS) Initiative and the importance of onboarding newcomers.
- Roland Lemoine, NonStop Product Manager, presented numerous different HPE Roadmap slides illustrating HPE’s investments into development activity, including one on “Transparent Data Encryption.”
Gravic presented at the MexTUG Chapter Meeting held in Mexico City on April 10. Our presentation, HPE Shadowbase: Alta Disponibilidad e integración de Datos para Sistemas HPE NonStop (High Availability and Data Integration for HPE NonStop Systems), was given by Kenneth Scudder (pictured), VP, Global Sales and Business Development, and María Luisa Mendoza Topete, Gerente de Desarrollo de Negocios, LATAM.
The SunTUG Sunshine Summit was a well-attended event held on April 4 in Tampa with great opportunities for networking and conversation outside the sessions! Karen Ramirez provided a NonStop Business Update and John Vollers (pictured), HPE NonStop System Architect, presented the NonStop Product Roadmap, followed by several vendor presentations, including Paden Holenstein, Product Manager, who presented on HPE Shadowbase Digital Resilience for NonStop Systems, (similar to our N2TUG presentation).
Gravic presented HPE Shadowbase: Alta Disponibilidad e integración de Datos para Sistemas HPE NonStop (similar to our MexTUG presentation) at the inaugural ChileTUG NonStop User Group Event held in Santiago on March 27. (Pictured: Fabian Manfredi and Neil Davis of HPE with Ken and Maria.)
