Protecting your most vital applications and data with HPE Mission Critical Software

In our connected 24x7 economy, experiencing downtime for most applications has become cost-prohibitive for business, not only financially but also in loss of reputation. Minimizing downtime has long been a core tenet of IT teams the world over, especially those working with vital applications such as enterprise resource planning, core banking, electronic healthcare and more. In HPE, we have vast experience and proven solutions in the mission-critical computing space. We start at the infrastructure level with our well known mission-critical servers, with a unique and comprehensive set of built-in RAS (reliability, availability, and serviceability) capabilities that result in high levels of single-system uptime. Single-system availability is of great value, and a fundamental component of any mission-critical environment; but it´s not enough when the end result must be maximum application uptime across the IT stack. Ultimately, the business cares about the availability of business functionality, and that comes directly from the applications. And so, application-targeted high availability is paramount for this type of IT deployment.

What is HPE Complete?

A couple of months ago, I did a Chalk Talk that gave a description of the HPE Complete program. The HPE Complete program resells best-in-class third party branded products that complement and complete HPE native solutions. When something is worth my time to do a Chalk Talk, I try to also do a blog post on the topic. I just updated the Chalk Talk with a few new partners in the Complete program so now's a great time to highlight the program.

Recapping the storage news from HPE Discover

Discover has come and gone and it was a fantastic event for me. I had a great time meeting people and sharing my passion for storage. If you were unable to join us in Las Vegas, I want to give you an overview of some huge news we announced at HPE Discover 2019. If you’d rather watch a video, this Chalk Talk is the same information but there are several links in my article that you can get more on the things I discuss.

The Data-centric World of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

[Compute-centric]

In the early days of High-Performance Computing (HPC) the concept of solving complex problems was driven by how much processing power was available to achieve a goal within a reasonable amount of time. At the same time, the algorithms that made up the HPC applications were designed to take full advantage of the processing capabilities with no limits in sight.…

Hyperconvergence Delivers Unexpected Results for VDI Users

The self-help industry is steadily growing, due to a basic human desire for improvement. Consumers can find a plethora of books, podcasts, and seminars, not to mention products and services that promise positive change.

IT organizations that want to experience similar improvements can find them by implementing some less-than-urgent technology makeovers. The results can often deliver unexpected and far-reaching benefits. Client virtualization environments stand to benefit more than most, because even small improvements in system performance are multiplied across hundreds of desktops.…

Tributary Systems Accelerating and Streamlining Backup and Data Storage

Over the past four decades, storage and backup technologies have made evolutionary, but rapidly accelerating, progress; progress that has traversed all the way from the traditional reel-to-reel tapes, through disk drives and their virtual avatars, and ultimately, to breakthrough technologies like data deduplication and object storage that massively reduces data redundancy and overheads. Yet, data storage, being a long-term strategy and investment, has made it a herculean task for CIOs to embrace newer technologies and systems, especially at a time when enterprises are witnessing unprecedented levels of data generation.

The Better Backup Method

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

The need to back up data has existed as long as data itself. Sometimes the backup is needed for historical purposes, for example, to preserve a snapshot of the information in time. In other cases, it is used to maintain an accurate and up-to-date copy of the information if the primary copy is lost or corrupted.

Magnetic tape is the oldest backup medium still in use.

HPE Nimble Storage–a year later

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]It’s been just over a year since we acquired Nimble Storage. I was thinking about it recently as we had an HPE Nimble Storage related announcement at the beginning of May. I’ll talk more about that in a bit but I wanted to share some thoughts about the last year.

No one was more surprised than me when I got an email from my manager the night before we were going to announce the acquisition.…
