Back for More

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]Welcome to the New Year! By my reckoning we are now in our forty-fifth year with NonStop and still counting. For the very first time there is a growing awareness that with all that HPE has done for NonStop in the last five years there is a very good chance that we will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of NonStop and very likely, many more.…

Moving from a “Mission Critical” to the “On-Line, Real-Time, All-the-Time” World

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]The term “Mission Critical” is a well known and frequently used term. When coined decades ago to describe unique NonStop positioning in the market, it was very effective. However, as with anything that’s been around a while, it’s not the differentiator it was. Further, impact has been diluted with many companies claiming their products support mission critical applications.

As a result, for those unfamiliar with a platform or the underlying technology, how do they decide which is the real deal to best address increasing business needs with the appropriate digital platform and rising User expectations?…

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]This article describes how JCPenney migrated from their old ACI Base24 payment system to their new modern OmniPayments payments solution. The migration was completed in record time resulting in a superior solution. The new solution provides a much improved and flexible solution that can process their payments transactions much faster, with higher volume at a much lower cost. The new solution provides monitoring capabilities, both from a business and from an infrastructure perspective that was not available to JCPenney with the previous solution.…

Tributary Systems’ Observations on NonStop Technical Boot Camp 2018

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Earlier this month, Stacie Neall asked for Tributary’s observations on the 2018 NonStop Boot Camp held last November. Well I have some, of course. However I would be remiss if first I didn’t take a moment to recognize all those that plan, facilitate, and in a sense “operate” the event. Stacie, Kathy Wood, Kelly Luna, Karen Copeland and Kristi Elizondo immediately come to mind.…

The company has seen the usage of NonStop systems change and grow through the years up to the point where today NonStop became the main system to record all holders’ accounts, trades and exchanges run on their behalf, as well as the repository for equities, mutual funds, bonds, annuities.…

NonStop Trends & Wins

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]In my first column on trends and wins in NonStop it is only fair to point out that I am not in product management. I am not in sales management. I am not in development. I have held various positions over my 30+ years working for NonStop. I have assisted in many sales over the years and have a continuous interest in where and how NonStop might be used.…

BREACH AFTER BREACH, BUT WHAT IS THE LESSON?

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]Stop me if you’ve heard this before: “BREAKING NEWS – Massive data breach of Company XYZ, millions of customers’ data compromised, extent of the breach still unknown!”. Cue the generic PR emails attempting to reassure the masses that “everything in our power is being done to investigate this breach”, but most importantly to appease regulators in order to avoid massive fines.…

A Call to Arms – and the Fingers at the end of them

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image=”2054″ img_size=”medium”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_column_text]Advocacy has been a key tenet of Connect and its founding user groups. The other two main “legs” of a user group are Education and Community and these continue to be met by Chapter and RUG meetings, attendance at HPE Discover and the Various Technical Boot Camps with associated SIG Meetings and Technical Forums.

Advocacy has however had a much more difficult road.…

Openness Was Not Always Ensured

[vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]An open system is able to interoperate easily with other open systems at both the application and the data level. The attribute of openness in systems was not always ensured or even accepted. This was brought to my attention when I came across a paper I had written years ago titled “Can the Computer Industry Truly Support Openness?”

The paper made several assertions that seem surprising in today’s technology.…
