In HPE we have been speaking to customers recently about models for deployment of SAP HANA and SAP S/4HANA. Many customers we speak to are considering deploying these workloads in the public cloud. At the same time, the strong message from SAP is to run S/4HANA in the cloud[1], whether that be SAP’s own cloud or one of the public cloud hyperscalers that SAP has a relationship with. While the public cloud clearly has a place in the SAP architect’s kit bag, we believe that SAP architects should not only consider whether or not they can run S/4 in the public cloud, but also whether they should.
It is a myth that you must act powerful to gain respect — many people confuse being “the one who is responsible” with being “in power” and that in order to “act like a leader” you need to “act powerful”. Both men and women do this — decibel level and states of constant dissatisfaction don’t generally keep people on their toes in a good way. It breeds anxiety.
Every company has an origin story, and company names aren’t always created from the obvious. Steve Jobs branded his company Apple Computer after he returned home from working in an apple orchard. Jeff Bezos wanted his tiny business to grow as big as the Amazon River, the largest in the world. Google was supposed to be named Googol, a math term for ten to the one-hundredth power. But when the name was misspelled as Google during a domain name search, the decision was made to register the mistake.
A reduction in infrastructure total cost of ownership can mean lowered expenses as well as corollary advantages: increased employee productivity, agility, and time savings. The benefits are clear. Charting a path to it is more ambiguous.
The recent news about a proposed bill to create a central data privacy enforcing body shines another spotlight on the high-risk, high stakes shifting ground that many businesses operate their engines of growth on – consumer data collection, analysis, and retention.

I was named CEO of Girl Scouts of the USA in 2017. It’s truly an honor to lead this organization that made such an impact on my life and on the lives of 50 million alums across the country and the world. In 2018, research showed that less than one percent of Silicon Valley leadership was Latina. So how did I get to be one of those leaders? What in my life prepared me with the courage and confidence to take on leadership roles and thrive?
More than 60 years ago, a trucking entrepreneur revolutionized the shipping industry by introducing a more efficient method of transporting goods. Instead of workers manually loading and stacking small boxes of goods onto ships, Malcolm McLean debuted the world’s first ship for carrying trailer-sized containers, thereby dramatically speeding the process of shipping goods globally.
Advancing on the journey started a few years ago, Hewlett Packard Enterprise has continued to transform during 2019. This journey has included both spin-offs and acquisitions; the next-Gen IT project – a significant effort to simplify our IT landscape; a substantial organizational transformation in the field, moving from large regions to focused geographies, and more. But amidst all the changes, there are three elements at the core of the company that have remained intact: our focus on innovation, on customer needs and, last but not least, on partnering.
