HPE has long been committed to combatting the risk of modern day slavery in our global operations and supply chain (read more about our commitment here). There are over 50 million people trapped in modern slavery worldwide, with the majority of that number being made up of women and children. Our latest effort in tackling this atrocity is our Human Rights Impact Accelerator Program, supporting non-profit and international organizations such as UNICEF’s South Asia Regional Office (ROSA) and the International Rescue Committee that are at the forefront of protecting human rights, supporting their need for greater technology that enables them to achieve their mission.
HPE Digital Next Advisors have helped participants rethink how to leverage technology in the field as they respond to disasters and serve communities in need year-round.
The program provided participants with access to world class resources such as HPE Digital Learner Platform, along with expert-led workshops and curated pro-bono advisory on topics such as innovation and automation, cybersecurity, generative AI and ethical AI. Over the duration of the program:
- HPE Digital Next Advisors have helped participants rethink how to leverage technology in the field as they respond to disasters and serve communities in need year-round. This is the first step in developing a digital roadmap for those without a strategy.
- HPE experts advised organizations on how to develop their ethical AI principles and better leverage AI in their missions.
- HPE provided cybersecurity training and follow-on support to help participants be aware of cyber risks and best practices. Participants saw a crucial need to understand and define cybersecurity and exploitation risks. HPE trainings and content increased cybersecurity awareness and maturity of participants while ongoing support protects organizations and their beneficiaries (survivors) from cyber threats.

By levering technology, UNICEF ROSA is empowering frontline health workers, revolutionizing education, and employing technology to make real-time decisions in emergencies and deliver critical aid.
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) helps people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster, including the climate crisis, to survive, recover and gain control over their future. Through their anti-trafficking work that began in 2003 and focuses on prevention protection, and mitigation, IRC has served and reached more than 70,000 people.
The threat of modern slavery is one that should be on the forefront of everyone’s mind. While there is still much work to be done in eradicating modern slavery, we are proud to support these organizations and continue to look closely at our own value chain.
